Students set record in recycling contest

Jan. 30 -- An annual recycling contest pitting colleges and universities against each other has drawn a record number of participants this year.

Recyclemania drew 201 schools in 42 states and the District of Colombia to battle in the 10-week competition from Jan. 28 to April 7. That is the most participants since the contest was created in 2001 as a friendly rivalry between recycling coordinators at two schools ù Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, and Miami University in Miami, Ohio.

Recyclemania taps the intercollegiate spirit that drives sports rivalries to increase the schools´ recycling performance. The contest is divided into several categories and provides professional promotional materials to campus recycling coordinators.
